Students from Breathitt High School participated in an event hosted by KVEC at the Kentucky State Capital on March 10, 2020. Students were given the opportunity to showcase their work on the Innovation Grant projects in the rotunda of the Capitol Building. During this time students were given the opportunity to see and hear from Governor Beshear as he took time to speak to all the students in attendance. The trip was an excellent opportunity for BHS students to show off the hard work and dedication they have put into their Grants and to see the State Capital Building, many of whom this was their first time. Kaylan Brewer in addition to presenting the "Beautify Breathitt High School" Student Senate Grant also worked with KVEC to pass out information and took part in a press conference to increase awareness of the upcoming 2020 Census. Ms. Donna Combs was awarded the Galileo Award for her commitment to learners and the community and her dedication to education. Chassity Noble, Shaunta Baldwin, and Nicholas Wilson presented “Bobcat Store #2.” Charles Neace and Gentry Harris presented “The Buddy Benches,” while William Wilson and Parker Miller presented “The Comfort Pillow.” Students immensely enjoyed their day in Frankfort and represented Breathitt County well.
