Volleycats Sponsor Fight Against Breast Cancer

The 3rd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Match between the BHS Volleycats and Jackson City Lady Tigers is Thursday, October 6, 2011, beginning at 6 p.m. in the BHS Gymnasium.
Monday, September 26, 2011, kicks off the BHS Volleycats 3rd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser. Each year the Volleycats sell pink ribbons, accept donations, etc. to raise money for the awareness of this terrible disease. In this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Match the Volleycats will take on the Lady Tigers of Jackson City, who are also fundraising for this event.  All money raised is donated to Breast Cancer Awareness. Items that you may make a donation to are:  a free dental exam and cleaning courtesy of Dr. Rodney Griffith, DMD; a free oil change with up to five quarts of oil donated by Hutch Automotive; two different flower arrangements donated by Anna’s and Ada’s Flowers; a front end alignment courtesy of Goodyear Tire; a shampoo, cut, and wax donated by Tina Edwards with Hairloom; a pink breast cancer duffle bag donated by Wild 4 Purses; and two sets of place mats with matching table runner donated by Jett’s Home Furnishing. Donations are only 50¢each. Anyone who makes a donation on these items will have their name placed in a drawing for a chance to win. Drawings will take place on the night of the game scheduled for Thursday, October 6th, in the BHS Gymnasium beginning at 6 p.m.

In addition, James Stanley and staff from Kentucky River Medical Center will be doing free blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose screenings again this year. Patty Wilder, Karen Griffith, and others from the Breathitt County Chapter of Relay for Life will be giving out free and valuable information on the various types of cancer. Also, this year’s guest speakers, both of whom are breast cancer survivors will be Rosa Hudson and Sharon Deaton, and they will share personal stories of their battle with this disease.

With the support of local businesses, we will have lots of door prizes to give away. The following have generously donated items this year to support this worthy cause: YPK of Jackson, Jiffy Mart, Wendy’s, Little Caesar’s, Hairloom, Wayne’s Beauty Shop, McDonalds, Cozy Corner, BHS Library, Rite Aid of Jackson, Midegollado, Slone’s, Showtime, Combs Furniture, and Alberto’s.

We would also like to extend a special invitation to anyone who is a breast cancer or cancer survivor to come out and be with us, as we will be recognizing these individuals. If you are a survivor and plan to attend, please call BHS Volleyball Coaches Malissa Noble or Ronnie Combs @ 666-7511 and give them your name.
