The Breathitt County School District currently participates in the following national foodservice programs:

National School Lunch Program - District-wide
School Breakfast Program - District-wide
Afterschool Snack Program - BHS via 21st Century Grant
Summer Feeding Program - Sites TBD
Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program - HTS, MRC, SES
 
The Breathitt County School district and it’s foodservice employees are dedicated to providing nutritious and well – balanced meals to all students and faculty. We currently provide meals to approximately 1,870 P–12 students across the district. Our foodservice staff consists of 26 certified cook/bakers, 4 part-time custodians, and a Registered Dietitian.

Looking for Wellness Policy Committee Members!
 
We are looking for individuals that are interested in serving on the district wellness policy committee. This group will meet annually, possibly twice a year to develop and implement policies relative to the well being of the student of our district. The first meeting will be scheduled for late October/early November.

Breathitt County Board of Education Receives

USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) Grant!

Breathitt County Board of Education is pleased to announce three schools are recipients of the federal Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) funded and regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The FFVP provides all children in participating schools with a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the school day. It is an effective and creative way of introducing fresh fruits and vegetables as healthy snack options. The FFVP also encourages community partnerships to support the schools when they offer free fruits and vegetables to children during the school day. The goal of the FFVP is to:

• create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices

• expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience

• increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption

• make a difference in children’s diets to impact their present and future health

School selection was based upon submitted applications from elementary schools that operate the National School Lunch Program and that have 50 percent or more of their students eligible for free/reduced-price meals. Priority was given to schools with the highest percentage of free and reduced-price eligible students. Kentucky received more than 3.2 million dollars in FFVP funding for the 2020 Federal Fiscal Year. Each participating school will receive funds to operate the program based on approximately $50 per student. The participating schools is listed below:

Breathitt County Schools will be participating in the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program.  As part of this program, Highland Turner Elementary School, Breathitt County High School, Marie Roberts – Caney Elementary School, and Sebastian Elementary School will offer healthy meals every school day at NO COST to the students due to the implementation of the Community Eligibility Provision for school year 2019-2020.  Students will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a household application.

SUMMER FEEDING 2019!!

Open Sites

Breathitt County Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Public Forum

There will be a public forum open to everyone on January 22nd at the Breathitt County Board of Education board meeting at 5:00 at Breathitt High School.  Any comments regarding the 2018-2019 Nutrition & Physical Activity Report Card are welcome. The report card is posted on the district website and can be found by clicking the department tab at the top of the page and scrolling down to food services/nutrition. MealViewer Software

Breathitt County Schools and its foodservices department are pleased to announce the release of a nutritional software mobile application called MealViewer to our school community. This software will allow you to access breakfast and lunch menus for your children’s school up to 30 days in advance. Calories, fat, and carbohydrates will also be displayed for all menu items. The MealViewer application is also great for receiving school announcements and information about events happening at your school. The MealViewer mobile app is available for iPhone and Android smartphones and can be found at the following links below:
