To read and understand  informational text compared to classic fiction or poetry.

Monday:
Listen for enjoyment and concentrate on the speaker.
Discuss narrative elements.
Summarize to increase involvement with the text.  Students may research the Florida Everglades on the internet.
Discuss vocabulary words.  Students will write one meaningful sentence with each vocabulary word.
Assignment: Pages 224-225
MODIFICATIONS: Reading selections will be read aloud, and answers will be recorded on overhead (as deemed necessary).
EXTENSIONS: Students will incorporate narrative elements into their discussions.

Tuesday:
Continue discussing narrative elements.
Read “Everglades”.
Answer review questions.
Assignment: Pages 226-236
MODIFICATIONS: Reading selections will be read aloud, and answers will be recorded on overhead (as deemed necessary).
EXTENSIONS: Advanced/Challenge Activities – Page 41.

Wednesday:
Continue discussing elements of informational text.
Review correct answers for review questions.
Discuss synonyms.
Assignment: Practice Book Pages 41-42
MODIFICATIONS: Reading selections will be read aloud, and answers will be recorded on overhead (as deemed necessary).
EXTENSIONS: Advanced/Challenge Activities – Page 42.

Thursday:
Continue discussing elements of informational text.
Discuss figurative language.  
Discuss making inferences.
Assignment: Practice Book Page 43
MODIFICATIONS: Reading selections will be read aloud, and answers will be recorded on overhead (as deemed necessary).
EXTENSIONS: Making inferences will be elaborated upon by incorporating a variety of texts.

Friday:
Continue discussing elements of informational text .
Administer reading test.
MODIFICATIONS: Accommodations will be made for students with readers and/or scribes.
