Iditarod Dream
Objectives for the week:
To draw inferences, conclusions, or generalizations about text and support them with textual evidence and prior knowledge. 
To understand complex sentences. 
To read and understand nonfiction.

Monday:
Listen for enjoyment and concentrate on the speaker.
Discuss drawing conclusions.
Use read ahead to increase involvement with the text.
Discuss vocabulary words. Students will write meaningful sentences with 3 words for this week.
Assignment: Pages 184-185
MODIFICATIONS: Reading selections will be read aloud, and answers will be recorded on Promethean Board or white board (as deemed necessary). See additional accommodations below.
EXTENSIONS: Students will incorporate drawing conclusions into their discussions. Teacher will model organizational skills.

Tuesday:
Continue discussing drawing conclusions.
Read “Iditarod Dream”.
Answer review questions.
Assignment: Pages 186-196.
MODIFICATIONS: Reading selections will be read aloud, and answers will be recorded on overhead (as deemed necessary).
EXTENSIONS: Advanced/Challenge Activities – Page 32. Students will practice organizational skills.

Wednesday:
Continue discussing drawing conclusions.
Review and correct answers for review questions.
Discuss homographs.
Assignment: Practice Book Pages 32-33
MODIFICATIONS: Reading selections will be read aloud, and answers will be recorded on Promethean or overhead (as deemed necessary).
EXTENSIONS: Advanced/Challenge Activities – Page 33.

Thursday:
Continue discussing drawing conclusions.
Discuss multiple-meaning words.
Assignment: Practice Book Page 34
MODIFICATIONS: Reading selections will be read aloud, and answers will be recorded on overhead or promethean (as deemed necessary).
EXTENSIONS: Advanced/Challenge Activities – Page 33. Students will practice organizational skills.
Friday:
Review drawing conclusions.
Administer reading test.
MODIFICATIONS: Accommodations will be made for students with readers and/or scribes such as guided practice, extended time, small groups or individual learning groups, use of graphic organizers, organizational skills.
