Sebastian Middle School students in the 21st CCLC After School program were treated to a hands-on, project-based carpentry class with volunteer, Bryan Combs JR. Mr. Combs has been working with a small group of students to complete eight full-sized picnic table, since early last month.
The project came about because of the need for more seating in the outdoor classroom. After receiving safety demonstrations, the students were involved in every aspect of the project, including measuring, cutting, assembling and finishing each table. Several of the students involved in the project had previous experience in wood working, still some students had never touched a power tool before.
When asked about the project, Mr. Combs said, “These kids are amazing. They were eventually able to come in and take over the work, with me helping here and there.”
The 21st CCLC After School staff and students would like to thank Mr. Bryan Combs for leading this project and the many hours he has devoted to our school.
