Mrs. McCune’s reading classes have been working with a new reading program this year called Power Reading Online. Students work independently to listen to fluent readers reading passages just above their reading level. They have to complete activities such as comprehension questions, vocabulary activities and games that pertain to their story. Once the student is confident that they can read the story back to the teacher and give a verbal summary of the passage, they request a read back. If the student is able to read the passage orally to the teacher with less than five mistakes, then they are given a new passage.
At the beginning of November, each reading student received a turkey for the bulletin board. Every time a student completed a read back, they received a feather to put on his/her turkey. On Nov. 22, students who completed 5 successful read backs for the month got time to watch a movie complete with popcorn. Congratulations to all the turkeys that got the reward.
