Extra! Extra! Read All About It! Newspaper scavenger hunt in 8th grade Language Arts class

This week in Ms. Combs’s class, we have been learning about newspapers.  Why do we read newspapers? We read them for information, entertainment, and to persuade.

We have learned a lot about newspapers in Ms. Combs’s class.  We learned that they contain text features.  Text features help organize, grab reader’s attention, and help readers understand the text.  There are also a lot of subjects and topics in a newspaper.  We learned that the main headlines go on the front page.  Also, we learned about a newspaper’s characteristics by doing a newspaper scavenger hunt.  We searched for the many different parts of the newspaper, such as the titles and text features.  Next week, we plan to learn how to write a feature article.  This has been an exciting and interesting project and we hope to participate in more of them in the future.
